# Wallpaper

> Choose the image, GIF or video shown on the six keys while the deck sleeps.

## What is the sleep screen

When you assign the **Sleep Deck Screen** action to a key, the deck does not stop working; the six
LCD keys turn into a single image. The image is split into a 3x2 grid, so you see one whole picture
across the keys rather than separate pieces. When you touch any key or knob on the deck, your
profile comes back; that first touch only wakes the deck and does not run the action underneath.

## Choosing your own image

The **Wallpaper** section in the left panel determines what appears on the sleep screen.

1. Choose a file from your computer with **Upload image**.
2. Click the image you uploaded to select it; the check mark in the top-right corner shows which
   one is in use.
3. The sleep screen shows the image you selected the next time it opens.

The **Default** tile is the image that ships with evoX and cannot be deleted; you can remove the
ones you uploaded with the trash button. If you delete the image in use, the selection returns to
the default automatically.

## When the computer sleeps

While your computer was asleep, the deck screen used to keep showing your last profile until you
turned it off. Now you choose what happens from the **When the computer sleeps** card at the top of
the **Wallpaper** section:

| Option                              | What happens                                                                              |
| ----------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Show the sleep screen** (default) | The wallpaper you selected is drawn on the six keys and the three keys below are cleared. |
| **Turn the screen off** | All keys are cleared and the screen goes dark. |
| **Leave the icons on** | The old behavior: the deck keeps showing your profile icons. |

When the computer wakes up, the deck returns to your profile on its own; you don't need to do
anything. If the deck is still dark right after waking, touching any key also brings the profile
back — that touch only wakes the deck and does not run the action underneath.

<Note>
  The choice takes effect on the next sleep; it is not applied to the deck right away. This setting
  is for the computer's sleep; it does not change the behavior of the **Sleep Deck Screen**
  action you assign to a key.
</Note>

## Supported files

| Type     | Extensions                       |
| -------- | -------------------------------- |
| Image    | `.png`, `.jpg`, `.jpeg`, `.webp` |
| Animated | `.gif`, `.mp4`, `.webm`          |

<Note>
  Animated wallpapers play while the deck is connected directly. If evoX has fallen back to a backup
  connection path, the first frame is shown as a still image — the sleep screen still works, it just
  doesn't move.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Because the image is spread across six keys, landscape framing (close to 3:2) gives the best result.
  A portrait photo also works; it is cropped at the edges to fit the grid.
</Tip>

## What is sent to the deck

No video is sent to the device. evoX decodes the animated file into a limited number of frames and
draws them on the keys frame by frame; that is why even a long video does not strain the deck. The
files you upload stay on your computer and are not sent anywhere.
